I went to see the new film The Creator. Most of the films I review are old but this one is currently in theaters. I won’t spoil the film but this review warrants a Spoiler Alert. The Creator is a sci fi film set in the future. It’s yet another film based on humanity versus the threat of artificial intelligence. I recommend the film.
The film takes place in 2055. Los Angeles, California has been bombed in a nuclear attack by artificially intelligent beings. The west has cleansed itself of AI. The United States declares war on AI which is still in use in what is called New Asia. The Creator follows the US invasion of New Asia in an attempt to rid the world of artificially intelligent entities.
I recommend The Creator if you like sci fi movies. This movie uses a lot of Hollywood tropes and it reminds me of a lot of other stories. The Creator reminded me of I, Robot, I am Legend, District 9, T2, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Platoon, Golden Child, The Bible, Bewitched, Miss Saigon and The Notebook. The plot takes elements from a lot of sources but the screenplay is well written and straight forward. The film kept me invested and entertained. I am a person that enjoys sci fi films as well as other genres but the lack of originality may leave something to be desired for viewers that are not film buffs.

The Creator had great special effects and the acting was great. The cast is mostly unknown to me. The only actor I recognized was the gorgeous Allison Janney who plays the mom from the sit com Mom. Her role is gritty so this was a departure from the way she is usually presented.

The Creator is worth the time and money if you enjoy sci fi, action movies and an old fashioned love story.
