Question of the Day 3.1.24

Do you believe in fate/destiny?

I think some things are fate/destiny/God’s plan.  I think some things are a matter of life becoming what we make of it.  Both are valid and one does not cancel out the other.

    1. I don’t think there is a contradiction. I think life is nuanced and we need to pray for discernment and to be lead by the Holy Spirit. We also need to be disciplined and obedient to God’s word.

      1. I didn’t say there was contradiction. I believe the salvation of God’s people is elected; it is the fate of the father…

      5. Absolutely, no doubt. Judas was doomed for destruction. Plan A.

John 17:12 – While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.

Psalm 17:3 – 18 Truly, you put them on a slippery path and send them sliding over the cliff to destruction.

Acts 2:23 – this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.

        Blessings; Happy Easter,

  1. The Bible says anyone that accepts Christ and follows him will be saved. It’s each individuals choice to follow Christ or not.

    1. No doubt. But where does the will to “accept” him come from? The Bible rarely uses the word “accept” by the way. The word most often used is “received”. Why the difference? Because the gospel is not about a contract of acceptance, signing your receipt of reception. It’s about reception as a gift.

John 1 – 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

John 6 – 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64 But there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.) 65 And he said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.”

John 15 – 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

John 3 – 16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life……….. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been *****carried out by God.*******”

I could quote even more in John and throughout the Biblical text. You did not choose God. He chose you. That is what the Bible teaches very clearly.

Romans 9 – 15 For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” 16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” 18 So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills.

      1. The will is the individual’s choice. We all have choice and free will to choose to follow Christ or not.

      2. Did you not read the Bible verses I just quoted? They do not impose a free will to choose God. Are you referring to the Christ of the Bible?

Acts 13:48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord, and ***as many as were appointed to eternal life***** believed.

      3. The world includes all of us. The Lord already died for the sins of the world. It’s up to individuals to choose to follow Jesus Christ of the Christian Bible for salvation.

      4. perhaps you may argue, it is for the sin of unbelief. If you argue such a case, then you are saying that Jesus died for all the sins of the world except for unbelief. Doesn’t that mean he didn’t die for all the sins of the world? In particular, he didn’t even die for the worst sin of all. The sin that leads to eternal death.
Given you really didn’t articulate what you believe, perhaps you are a universalist. In which, Christ died for all the sins of the world and we will all go to heaven. Love to know what you really believe in this matter.

        Revelation 5:9
9 And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll
        and to open its seals,
for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God
from every tribe and language and people and nation,

        Matthew 1:21
21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
        John 10:11
11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

        Isaiah 53:11-12
        11 Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied;
by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant,
make many to be accounted righteous,
and he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many,
and he shall divide the spoil with the strong,
because he poured out his soul to death
        and was numbered with the transgressors;
yet he bore the sin of many,
and makes intercession for the transgressors.

        Matthew 20:28
28 even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

        Ephesians 5:25
25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,
        Hebrews 9:28
28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

        John 17:9
9 I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours.

        John 11:51-52
51 He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, 52 and not for the nation only, but also to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.

        Acts 20:28
28 Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.

        Isaiah 53:8
        8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away;
and as for his generation, who considered
that he was cut off out of the land of the living,
stricken for the transgression of my people?

        John 10:15;26-27
15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep….26 but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

      5. Easter was last weekend. Christ died for the sins of humanity and we have the opportunity for our souls to be saved through faith in Christ and obedience to His word. It’s that simple.

I clearly state what I believe. I have a YT channel called Shannon’s Bible Study. Feel free to watch a video, like and subscribe.
