Joy 105 Com on You Tube is a Disaster đź‘ŽđźŹż

Joy 105 Com is a You Tube channel that plays videos of lectures of Christian leaders. Most of the videos feature a Black speaker. This channel is very disappointing and embarrassing. I have never been present for sermons like this in person and I wouldn’t attend one of these churches or conferences. Most of the churches I’ve attended have been churches with large Black congregations and/or had Black leadership. I’ve only seen this nonsense on You Tube not in person. Joy 105 Com likely looks for content that will get views and foolishness gets views. However it concerns me that there is so much of this content available. Good grief.

Joy 105 is a Contemporary Christian radio station based in the southeastern US. They say the goal of their social media posts is to start conversations. All conversations are not constructive. Some conversations start drama and create dissension. I looked at their website and the radio personalities are White but the buffoonery the post to You Tube is from Black churches. This is a Christian media outlet but they are not glorifying God and His word. They are glorifying nonsense and possibly racial bias.

I had to cut down the videos to post on this blog. Unfortunately, there is a lot to choose from. Feel free to look for yourself. I think there is an unhealthy relationship with sexuality, masculinity and femininity in Black churches and perhaps Black culture overall. There needs to be some Bible study, prayer, repentance and action on this matter.

There is blatant hostility towards women on display in a pulpit. There is a desire to control women and their choices. In this context the women at the center of the hostility, belittling, controlling, manipulative, gas lighting language are Black women. These speakers focus on telling women what they need to do in order to serve their husband and their choice of a husband. The role of wife is presented as one of servitude. Joy 105 Com features a few, about three, videos directed towards men. The vast majority of the content about dating and marriage is directed towards women and telling them what they need to do for a man.

I recognize that there is gray area. The speakers may be well intended, there may be some wisdom there and they were speaking to a group of people that may all be very familiar with each other and we are the outsiders missing some context. They aren’t totally wrong in what they’re saying but I think they are lacking spiritual guidance behind their message. I think they could be a lot nicer and more respectful towards women. Women need to learn to stand up for ourselves and stop going along with every stupid thing a man says.

Women need to have higher standards for men. That’s not only a matter of dating or marriage. It’s a matter of how women allow men to speak to them and about them. Women need to stop seeking male approval and validation from men that don’t respect, like them or are nice to them. Women need to stop seeking validation from men that are unkind to them and fail to see their humanity and are threatened by their femininity and sexuality.

I have not know Beyonce or Oprah to present themselves as Christian women. There is no reason for a preacher to critique either of them from a pulpit. I think the pastor resents them for being popular, powerful and wealthy women. There is no reason to discuss either of them from a pulpit. All of these matters require Black churches to look at the Bible with fresh eyes, prayer and open hearts.

Church members better study their Bible in order to discern worthwhile preaching. Women in the church need to see their worth and demand that clergy see it as well. Men in the church need to examine their thought patterns and eliminate misogynistic attitudes towards Black women, femininity and sexuality. If they only see Black women as servants they have no business serving them as clergy members.
