I went to see “Snow White” last night and I enjoyed it. It needs to be stated that I am not a Disney adult nor was I really a Disney child. Yes, I watched several Disney films as a child. Yes, I visited Disney in Orlando as a child. Disney is a part of American pop culture but I’m not a big fan. I’m stating this so you know my review isn’t fan bias.
“Snow White” is a musical and the performers did a great job. Snow White comes across as very likeable. I didn’t like the cartoon version at all. Snow White is my least favorite Disney cartoon princess. Snow White is diplomatic, has great soft skills, is well organized, great at motivating people and is a neat freak.
Rachel Zegler played Snow White. Rachel Zegler is twenty three and has been in six movies. Aside from “Snow White” I have seen Rachel in “West Side Story” and “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”. I’ve enjoyed Rachel in every role I have seen of hers.
Gal Gadot plays the Evil Queen and Snow White’s stepmother. The evil queen is mean, stingy, greedy, manipulative, violent, selfish, jealous and vain. She played her role well and was entertaining.
“Snow White” received bad press. There was controversy over the political beliefs of the lead actresses. Gal Gadot is Israeli. Rachel Zegler is pro Palestine. The miners were computer generated and very short people thought very short actors should have been hired. I agree with that. The actresses are criticized for coming across as not enthusiastic about promoting the film.
I would not have known about any behind the scenes tensions or controversies if social media had not made it a trending topic. I think the negativity is from pro Trump social media trolls. The Evil Queen reminded me of Trump. Snow White in contrast reminded me of Obama. There was a line in the film where Doc states that the Queen created hardship in the kingdom due to her economic policies.
Here is an article about Trump complaining about a portrait that was painted of him. The Evil Queen hordes wealth for herself. She turns The Kingdom into an authoritarian, militarized, dictatorship. She scammed to gain power and she seeks to destroy political opponents.
Trump is upset because he felt like the artist did a better job of painting Barack Obama. This reminds me of something the Evil Queen would complain about.
“Snow White” is well done, wholesome and not highly intense. I enjoyed the music and performances. The film is visually beautiful. The special effects are controversial but well done.
