I ran across a list on my Microsoft homepage. The list rank college towns with religious influences. I went to Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan. I have passed the building in this photo many times but long ago. I love the description of Ypsilanti and I think the words describe me as well. I’m unsure if the town where I spent my young adult life influenced me or if it was just a good fit for me. It’s hard to tell those things. Nonetheless, I’m glad I ran across this piece. I love it.
I was take to church as a child. I’m grateful for that foundation and those experiences butI still questioned the Bible and God. When I was a student at Eastern Michigan University there was a group of old men that passed out small copies of the New Testament. I took one and read it from start to finish. After reading the New Testament from beginning to end I was convinced the Bible was true and God was real.
I attended a church in Ypsilanti and I remember the pastor saying to ask God for faith if you have doubts but you want to believe. I did just that. That Sunday was nearly thirty years ago and I remember it well. I’m glad I took that silent, still leap of faith.
