Henry Ossawa Tanner
Henry Ossawa Tanner was a Black American painter that was born in the mid 1800s. These are the two paintings of Tanner that are most familiar to me. These are two of my favorite paintings. Henry Ossawa Tanner had a long career as an artist. His art depicts domestic life and Biblical themes.

Edward Hopper
Edward Hopper is an American painter from NYC that was born in the late 1880s. He made paintings that depicted quiet solitude. Hopper was married for a long time. It’s thought that his relationship with his wife influenced his artwork. They didn’t get along. Nighthawks is my favorite painting. It speaks to me. It’s dark, edgy, urban, mysterious with still tension.

Bob Ross
Bob Ross is an under rated American hero from the state of Missouri. Bob Ross, former military man, encouraged creativity, risk taking, bravery and forgiveness of self for mistakes through painting. Everyone knows “The Joy of Painting”. It ran on PBS between 1983-1994. Bob encouraged viewers to not be afraid to try something different. It’s OK if your effort is not perfect or exactly what you expected. It’s a matter of discovery and faith.
